One of the books I want to read this year is "If God is Good" by Randy Alcorn and although I haven't finished it, I've read a few key chapters in the last two days. I wanted to read a little bit concerning Good and Evil, Pain and Suffering and why does God allow evil and I have to say, so far, this book is amazing. I just read this and I'll pass it along. It deals with the question of "Why doesn't God do more to restrain suffering and evil?"
Here's Randy's thought, "God may already be restraining 99.99 percent of evil" we just don't know. Who's to say that more death or more pain than we could ever imagine could happen and what if God is right now restraining lawlessness and catastrophes so we can just even survive? Wow! Deep thought and a whole new perspective to pain and suffering. I Thess 2:7 talks of God doing just that.
In addition to that, what if in our pain and suffering we don't realize that God once again, is holding back 99.99 percent of the tragedies? God has to be restraining things because He knows what we can handle and if that's the case, when we're attacked, He has to be holding back the trouble. I Cor 10:13 addresses that. For instance, what if more than skill, what if more than luck brought flight 1549 down to a safe landing in the Hudson River? What if it was God in one of His thousand times a day moments of safety and protection where He helped us once again? It gets you thinking. Perhaps one day God will reveal how often He helped and we will be shocked at his constant hand of protection....Maybe He's doing WAY more than we thought He was doing....Because I know, God is good.
Hang in there, you're doing a great job!
