Recently my father in law told ne that he's really concerned about America and here's why. He told me that it's not a good thing to sing about the president of the United States because he's just "this president" and only represents the nation. He's not the president forever and ever and when people start singing about the government leaders it's more like communist and socialist countries than republics or democratic countries.
Now don't think my father in law is a bitter old man watching FOX all day, (OK, he does tend to watch FOX, CNN, MSNBC and the Weather channel all day but not just FOX!) he's a retired history professor and he's really level headed. He's Norwegian so you know he's not a hot head for sure! But his point is that all throughout history, free countries sing about their country and oppressed countries sing about their leader.
So, with that being said, can you help me out and tell me of songs that we sing as a country about our country and also, songs we sing about our president. I'm curious to see what we have out there because lately we've been hearing a lot of songs from children about our president and not our country. I'll keep a list going on the blog.
•America the Beautiful
•Anchors Aweigh
•The Battle Hymn of the Republic
•Freedom (Michael W. Smith album)
•God Bless America
•God Bless the USA
•Home on the Range
•Home! Sweet Home!
•The Liberty Song
•The Star-Spangled Banner
•Stars and Stripes Forever
•The Liberty Bell (march)
•There's a Star Spangled Banner Waving Somewhere
•This Is My Country
•This Land Is Your Land
•You're a Grand Old Flag

What song are you talking about? Having a hard time with arguments against the Obama era coming off of the Bush era.

There are numerous songs about the President being sung by school children. If you do a Google search you will find multiple schools doing songs and performances praising President Obama.
I am not defending President Bush, there were many things that I didn't agree with but honestly I never heard a song about President Bush, President Clinton or President Reagan. Or any President for that matter, that's why I'm asking for any insight if there are songs about other Presidents.

Is it just the New Jersey classroom? It sounds like that was just for a school play for black history month-I'm guessing the kids just wrote it themselves to bring attention to the U.S. first black president. Surely not an institutionally mandated situation nor a communist lean, unless it is spreading around the country and public schools are all forcing their young to write songs in praise of Obama. I'm sure some school somewhere has written a song about a president, it just wasn't deemed newsworthy enough to publish. It has been a pretty slow news month.

It looks like the song was during Black History month and was the song "Jesus loves the littel children" re-written as a tune for Obama. There have been a few other songs done by children during the campaign and other songs done by celebrities for Obama. That's what I've found so far. Still no songs for any other recent President.(Or old one for that matter.)

The Obama songs have been creepy, to say the least.
Listening to them makes me feel like I woke up in the DPRK!

Actually, Bush was praised in a song by school children. You can read about it here:

I think sometimes we get carried away about trivial things. I see these songs no different than singing "For he's a jolly good fellow..." to a friend.
Here the President of the United States visits some school children and they want to celebrate the occasion. It isn't like all schools are required now to sing the President song every morning before school - like they do with the pledge of allegiance to the flag.
If anything, continue to pray for our leaders that God directs their hearts.
